Windsurfing booms attach to the mast giving support to the sail and allow the rider to hold the boom and steer the rig. Many early booms used to tie onto the mast but these days booms use a clamp mechanism to firmly attach to the windsurf mast. Windsurf booms are manufactured from a variety of materials, mostly alloy or carbon fibre booms or a combination of these.
